The National ODOP Awards 2024 were held in Delhi on July 14, 2025, with Union Minister of
Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal, Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, and Minister of
State for Commerce and Industry Shri Jitin Prasada among the dignitaries present. The event
recognized excellence in the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, which promotes district-
specific products to boost local economies and global exports.
A total of 34 awards were presented across three categories: Districts, States and Union Territories (UTs), and Indian Missions Abroad. After securing the runner-up position last year, Maharashtra’s efforts were recognized this year with the prestigious Gold award, alongside Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. reflecting its strong performance in promoting district-specific products and supporting local
artisans and entrepreneurs.
•District-Level Highlights: Several Maharashtra districts received awards and special mentions
for their iconic products:
•Ratnagiri: Gold award for Alphonso Mangoes under agricultural category
•Nagpur: Silver award for Nagpur Orange under agricultural category
•Amravati: Bronze award for Mandarin Orange under agricultural category
•Nashik: Special Mention for Grapes/Raisins under agricultural category
•Akola: Special Mention for Cotton Ginning and Pressing under non-agricultural
category
These recognitions underscore Maharashtra’s commitment to the ODOP initiative, which has identified 72 products across 36 districts, established industrial clusters, and provided infrastructure and marketing support to local producers. The state’s ODOP Facilitation Cell, under MAITRI, plays a pivotal role in product selection, value chain development, and international market access.
Event Overview
The ceremony also included the launch of the Handbook for the 3rd Edition of the ODOP Awards and the ODOP Best Practices Compendium. Presentations by selected states, UTs, and Indian Missions highlighted successful ODOP models, followed by discussions on future strategies with industry stakeholders. Maharashtra’s performance at the National ODOP Awards 2024 highlights its leadership in leveraging local specialties for economic growth and global competitiveness. The best practices adopted by districts of Ratnagiri, Nagpur, Amravati, Nashik, and Akola exemplify Maharashtra’s commitment to strengthening local economies through the ODOP initiative by integrating product excellence with institutional support. Ratnagiri and Nagpur pioneered the development of comprehensive export guidebooks to aid producers in navigating GI certification and regulatory frameworks, coupled with efficient grievance redressal systems that ensure timely resolution and stakeholder confidence. Amravati empowered local entrepreneurs by organizing dedicated export outreach programs incollaboration with DGFT, enhancing market awareness for citrus products. Nashik leveraged its agro-industrial ecosystem by conducting ONDC-enabled workshops and fostering digital integration to strengthen market linkages for grapes and raisins. Meanwhile, Akola promoted artisan-centric practices through focused skill development and awareness programs, thereby anchoring traditional crafts in contemporary enterprise models. Collectively, these districts have established a robust blueprint of convergence between heritage, capacity building, and market readiness, reinforcing Maharashtra’s stature as a leader in ODOP excellence.
